Journey to finding yoga

It’s been a while since I introduced myself here, so here’s a little bit about my yoga journey.

I first discovered yoga in 1994. I was 14 years old, standing barefoot in a school hall with creaky floors and strip lights. Yoga was still pretty niche at that time in the UK - especially Wales - quietly unfolding in village halls and community centres drawing together diverse groups of people.

So how did I find myself there?

Well, I didn’t get on with PE at school. I wasn’t ‘sporty’ in the traditional sense and struggled with competition and judgement (always the kid picked last!). At the same time, I was quietly battling anxiety and looking for something that would help me feel more at home within myself. I knew I wanted to move - I just hadn’t found the right way yet.

One day, I saw a flyer in the post office that said: “Yoga for body and mind – All welcome. No experience needed.”

It felt like an invitation just for me.

I asked my mum to drop me off. And that was it. I was in love with the practice.

Yoga offered something different. A space to move without being measured, where I could breathe and just be. But at the same time learn important lessons about myself.

Since then Yoga has always been in my life. Sometimes in the background, sometimes at the centre. Through good times and bad times.

Eventually, my curiosity grew. I wanted to explore yoga beyond the mat - to understand its roots, philosophy and the layers beneath the practice. I joined @britishwheelofyoga and did a foundation course followed by a teacher training course led by the incredible Audrey Blow.

I hadn’t planned to teach. But something shifted. I found so much joy in holding space for others and creating room for people to meet themselves just as they are.

Today, alongside running my own company yello brick, I am privileged to hold space for people at some wonderful studios in Cardiff Vibes Yoga Bar, Studio I S, Studio Tarw and Cardiff Yoga Studio.

And I myself continue to learn from some incredible teachers.

So…

If you’ve landed here recently - welcome.

If you've been here a while - thank you.

Hope to see you on the mat sometime x
